Working for A Living

Ok, So this is not yet a full time job. Can't wait till it is ! Picked up a few treasures this weekend. Not much really going on. Had to settle for the thrift stores. But what you going to do the week between Christmas and New Years? I did find a wonderful antique chair at the Nottingham Flea Market when out with Connie. Re-stained it, steamed cleaned and trim re-applied with hot glue. It fit in perfectly with the decor of my bedroom. I also took a space in the basement to claim as my own. I now have all my " fixem upits" in one place. What a nice feeling to know I don't have to run all over the place just for a spot of glue. Next week I will be featuring "Trippin", this week did not work out. Technical difficulties and we will leave it at that.

A Lamp Is A Lamp ?

A lamp is a lamp and them some. As you know I made a coat rack out of an old lamp, thanks to Karla from Karla's Cottage. That got me thinking about these antique wall lights I had bought. So with a little glue, a few more buttons, and a couple of screws wallla I made clothes or what ever hangers for the doors of my guest room. Not so shabby Huh? In my bedroom I had found a pair of old lamps at an estate sale, bought them and put them aside. A few weeks later I found a pair of antique art deco perfume tops. Glued them together walla a beautiful mantle piece indeed. Who needs to see. Sometimes lights are better used for other things.

I will be adding a new feature that I hope you will all enjoy. Called Trippen with Antekin. Stayed tuned.

It's All About Me

One sale, just one today. The sale was advertised on Craigslist, and stated the sale would start at 10 am. Boy, they meant it. I got there at 9, and sat in my car. Luckily one of my fellow salers was there to, so we spent the time chit chatting. Connie finally arrived, we went in separate cars today because we both were heading in different directions after. You know tis the season.

Finally by 9:30 we all decided we better start a line or we could lose out when the sale finally started. The sale was being held by one of the live-in grounds keepers of Oakbourne Mansion, and the sale was inside the Mansion. A beautiful place it is too. We all huddled on this little side porch, trying to keep warm, and then the lady opened the door. Excitement was running high in this little crowd of ours, we could not wait to see all the wonderful things we were expecting. The door opened. We rushed in. And.........What a bummer, Not what we expected at all. JUNKKKKKKKKKK.

I did pick up an old doll house, quite dirty and missing some of it's trim, but I fell in love with it. I brought it home, cleaned it up, and added the choir boys from last weeks sale. Need to fine some of those little wreaths for the windows, some are missing. I totally bought this thing to resell, and then I plugged it in. So keeping it.

I also found a pair of matching Italian piano lights on Ebay. Bought those to resell too. But plugged them in and keeping them. So you all can see it is pretty clear, today was All About Me!

Now I am off to buy NEW Christmas gifts for my kids. They don't like my idea of used anything. That to will change someday. I hope.

T'was Two Weeks Before Christmas

T'was two weeks before Christmas, and all through the house, gowns were flying and shoes to match.
Had a party to attend on Friday eve, with all my colleagues, doctors, and spouses.
The party was at the" Mansion" (Radley Run Country Club) , snow, sleet, and rain, could not keep me away.
As I ran to my car to leave the festivities, visions of yard sales, tag sales, and estate sales danced in my head. For tomorrow is Saturday.
I climbed into bed and waited for the alarm. It struck at 7am and I flew to the shower. Only two yard sales was all the time I had. With my husband close behind, we headed out , coffees in hand.
Christmas decorations the theme of the day. From elves to choir boys, they all sang.
Back home again to gowns and shoes, off to "The Belvedere Hotel" ( Baltimore Maryland), for yet another party to attend.
Visions of yard sales danced in my head, but Sunday was spent driving home once again.
As I lay down for my nap, I dreamed of lights and trees, and awoke to get ready for the Kennett Candlelite ( Kennett Sq. PA) tour.
And what should my wandering eyes shall I see? But houses and houses decorated to the T.
People bundled all up from head to toe, and walking from home to home. The lights and the trees all pretty as can be.
Then off again home, to climb into bed, and dream of the Christmas Cards I forgot to send!

PS I can not take credit for the antique floor lamp turned into a coat rack by the door. Karla from Karla's Cottage came up with the idea. Posted on her blog, she had one in her bathroom, as a robe rack. I did however make mine from old lamp parts, an upside down sugar bowl and pearl buttons. Please check out Karla's. It is a fantastic idea. Dona

Christmas Sale and Friends

I left the house at 6:00am and had to stop at Sunoco to get my 20 oz coffee. It was the only place I could think of with easy in and out. Because I could not see out of my car, only the front window. Thank GOD no cops out that early or I would have been toast. I got to Connie's by 6:30 and we stoped so she could get gas. The station was not open yet, but I knew the attendant. He is a patient at my dental office. Well he not only filled her tank, but saw that she had a car load of pizzels. A sale at 6:30 in the morning. Score

It took us forever to set up our area, we were allowed in at 7 and the sale started at 9am. Well, exactly at 9 we were ready. How? Don't have a clue. But we were ready. My first customer of the day happened to be Kim ( left)from Shopkim. Well, it certainly was a pleasure to meet her. It would have been nice to spend more time with her, but we got very busy. We were the only ones selling antiques and vintage wares. Colleen from Fresh Vintage stopped by with her little girl also. What a cutie she is. The little girl that is. Sorry Colleen, the little one takes the cake.

We had a wonderful day. Funny thou the things that I thought would sell right away, did not. The things that I thought would be coming home with me sold. Just goes to show, you must have a variety of wares. Thank God Connie and I both have the same and different tastes, so that we can cover every one's likes.
